Fro' Me To You - And the Award goes to .....

Yes the Award for Mother of the Year goes to....... Valarie!!!!!!

Monday I get a call from school.....

School:  This is the Nurse, Logan just fell off the Monkey Bars.  He says he hurt his elbow.  I have put ice on it and he seems to be ok, but we wanted you to know.

Me:  I am sure he just hurt his funny bone, send him back to class, I am sure he is ok.  I will get my friend Kerry who works there at the school to come and check on him.

-------

Me typing an e.mail to friend......

Hey can you go check on Logan, He fell off the Monkey Bars and the Nurse thinks he might be ok, can you go look at it?

Kerry:  He was able to pull his arm out of his shirt, but he says it still hurts some.

Me:  Ok, I am sure he is fine, probably just bruised his funny bone.

---------

Tuesday

Sent him to school, his arm seems fine.  He says it hurts some, but I think it may just be bruised.  He is fine......

---------

Wednesday

Notice it is still bothering him, even in his sleep.  Uh-Oh  :(  He screams in pain trying to put his shirt on.  Umm double uh-oh....

Me: Hi doctor?  I think we may have a problem......

Here we are at the doctor....

Yep I need the award for Mother of the Year.  We break our elbow on Monday and on Wednesday we go to the doctor.

This would be more proof that We are THAT Family.

For more Fro' Me to You's head on over to Kristen's at We are THAT Family.

I know this does not fall under the complete guidelines, but I am not sure if I am gonna scrapbook my My Mommy Uh-Oh's.  Now seeing as it was his first ever broke bone, I might scrapbook that.  :)

Wow. That sucks. I could totally see that happening to me. Your son must be a tough one (and cute, I might add.)

hey, it just happens that way.

Don't feel bad! My daughter fell off a swingset and was using her hand a little although she said it hurt so I didn't take her for a couple of days and it was broken in two places.

Now, to really make you feel like an award because I would be getting arrested. I left my youngest in the car overnight once. He was two, we came home from church, the kids always unbuckled his seat, they all came in and said goodnight and went to bed. Next morning he wasn't in his bed. He was still in the car in the garage. It got down to 50's and I know he was cold. It makes me sick to think about it.

Logan deserves some icecream or something!

Aw, bless his heart! He sounds like a tough guy not to be in that much pain.

**Don't feel bad my SIL's daughter broke her arm at 2 yrs old and they didn't know until 9 days later!! The Dr. had to re-set it!

D'oh!! It's a fine line between being THAT mother who rushes her kid to the doctor for EVERY. STINKIN'. THING. and the mother who shrugs everything off, isn't it?! Tricky stuff, this motherhood gig.

I'm glad he's on the mend properly now!!

What a trooper! I guess he has to be if he's the son of the Mommy of the year ;-)...just kidding. It happens. My step-dad walked around on a broken ankle for a couple of days and it turned out he had broken it and needed surgery.

DD said...

Oh girl! My mom did this to my brother growing up.. only she let it go TWO WEEKS!!! High pain threshold much? (for my mom, not my brother) hha

Dawn said...

Oh, no! I am so sorry. Milk it kiddo... seems there's lots of opportunity to work mom right now! Ha ha!!

Praying for quick and complete healing.

At least he had a smile on durning the whole ordeal. And rather proud of that cast ;)! I would have done the same thing!

I think you are a great mom -- look at him all cuddled up in a quilt on the couch. Something tells me that he's getting lots of special treatment!

Blessings!

Poor little guy! When they're tough, its hard to tell. When she was little, my daughter tap danced on the table while the doctor assured us that she didn't have the flu (until the tests come back positive). Even experts do not always know.

Besides, his story is so much more interesting to say he held up against a broken elbow for 2 days before going to the Dr. Makes the girls swoon. :-)

Oh poor sweetie! I've been there too-waiting and then wishing I had run to the doc with a child.

Leigh of Tales from Bloggeritaville said...

Bless his heart, and yours and his arm! I know he is getting alot of make up hugs and waited on. We all make mistakes so dont be to rough on yourself. I have done the very same thing to my kid. And yes you feel about "that tall" but it's hard to distinguish sometimes. It'll be ok. Nothing a chocolate milkshake wont heal. And a big mommy hug.

Tough little guy, he is!

Hi Sweetie, You will have to bring LL up for me to sign his cast. I want to thank all of your friends for praying for me during my surgery. Remind them to continue their prayers during my sugery on Nov. 21. LOL to everybody.

No judging from me. Despite my years of nursing in training I might have responded the same way. Really.

Suzie said...

OH NO!!! That is not fair. It totally could have been his funny bone. You are a good mom! You are!

man he looks like my trooper..so sweet and tough!

aww..look how cute he is!
Don't feel to badly.. my dd was swinging in the door frame when she was 5, I asked her to get down and she smiled at me..I went over and tapped her..she lost her balance and fell ON her WRIST.. and yes she broke it..and proceeded to tell everyone that I BROKE her wrist!

mah-meeee said...

oh i tell ya... it's the nurse's fault. she said he seems fine, right? ;)

i think i did that to my mom once when i was a kid and i fractured my arm and didn't go to the doctor for days. apparently i had 'high pain tolerance.'

When I broke my ribs after falling off the bleachers at age four, my parents told me to shake it off. After about two additional hours of basketball games and whimpering, my momma took me to the doctor against my daddy's wishes. He thought I was fine. It happens to everyone... and now it's just a funny story in our family.

I scrapped Megan's first break... wait. I think that is actually still in the to be scrapped pile. Anyway it will get scrapped if it hasn't already.

Confused yet?

Sorry that Lil Logan got hurt. He looks pretty tough though. I guess he went to school with a sharpie for autographs?

When Meg hurt hers we drew a barbed wire tatoo at the top of the cast. She was adorable!

My 20 month old broke her leg. It ws 10 days before her leg was put in a cast. 10 days!!!! The ER didn't see the break, the family doctor said to wait a week and repeat xrays, and so on. So, 10 days!!!! I got you beat for mother of the year!!!!! Check out my blog for pictures.

My son had RSV and I didn't realize it till four days later WHEN I FINALLY CHECKED OUR VOICEMAIL. Yeah. It was a VERY mild case so no big deal. But STILL. Oh, and I also thought of using the sled as a welcome sign, just today! So funny we had the same idea. Thanks!

Debbie said...

What a brave litte man - your a good mommy - I would have done the same - I say lets blame Ms. Kerry- what to?

D... said...

My mom has you beat. I broke my leg but she didn't believe it was broken. One week later, she went out of town. I fell down (I was on crutches & they slipped out from under me). I was in such pain that I passed out. The principal called my grandmother and SHE took me to the dr. Yep, broken leg. Cast put on. My mom felt horrible and I do remind her of it every so often. ;)

Don't beat YOURSELF up though. I hope he heals quickly!

Oh Goodness!! I hope he heals up soon :)

Isn't that hard when it's the not knowing for sure. He's alright now. You're still a good mom. What a cute kid!

Ooops! I've actually heard of other people doing the same thing with their kids though...

This story sounds SO familiar. My Donny has broken so many bones. I was worried his bones were brittle or something but they're fine. He broke his ankle (the same one) three times in ONE YEAR. It was scary.

That is CLASSIC! We had a boy break his arm last week out at recess! He was able to move his arm ad wiggle his fingers, so we thought he was okay. Next day he walked in with a CAST! Are you sure we don't live in the same town???

What did the nurse/doctor think about you photodocumenting the whole thing?

v said...

oh uh ... tough guy. he doesn't show any pain. he looks cute and happy.

Oh dear! My brother broke his collar bone once and my mom didn't take him in right away. She is now 83 and still suffering the guilt of that decision. DO NOT let yourself beat yourself up forever over this. I do not want to read your blog when you're 83 and you're still doing penance in a sidebar or something. Hope he gets all better soon!

The Beauty Bargainista said...

ouch! I hope he is feeling better! Hey, there is an up side..now he can have everyone sign his cast! :)

Meg said...

Oh Val...hugs to you and your son! Seriously, don't beat yourself up...my son has broke the same hand THREE times...!

Connie said...

Sister, you crack me up! Well crack probably wasn't the best choice of words. I hope Logan feels better now since he helped you to get the mom of the year award.

By the way, we are heading to the plains for homecoming. War Eagle!

Ha! I do that all the time. ("Nail in his eye? Aw, he'll be allright. Ya'll quit playing so rough!") 99.9% of the time is was right... with the first 3 kids. Nat (our fourth) has had a way of... actually getting hurt/sick/damaged/etc.

Came over from Rhea's blog... I'm the Shannon she linked to in today's post...

Don't feel bad about waiting 2 days. Seriously.

My youngest has fractured her ulna. I took her to the pediatrician this past Friday, 11/7. The day that she fell and broke her arm?

Saturday, 10/25.

Yes. TWO. WEEKS. AGO.

Talk about Mother of the Year.

We went today to see the orthopedist and luckily all she needed was a cast (she had been in a splint since Friday).

Hope your son's elbow gets better soon!

Poor guy. It sounds like you were hoping for it to just be a bruise. Something I would have done, too. Well at least he is now on the road to a proper recovery. Happy healing! :)
