To Infinity and Beyond......

***update - I just received a call from my sister Robin, that yesterday, the day I actually wrote this post was the day of the 23rd anniversary of the loss of the Challenger Space Shuttle. ***

I live near a really neat and educational tourist attraction. The U.S. Space and Rocket Center. Where the actual movie "Space Camp" was filmed.

Do you want to know when the last time I went there was? I think I was in 7th grade. THAT was a long long long time ago. I don't even know if my kids have gone. Really its a shame. I need to take them.

We did go one time when my cousins were in from Michigan. I am thinking it was probably at Christmas time, cause from the looks of these pictures it was cold!

Don't ask me which rocket that is in the background. I really should know, but I don't. Sad to, since I only drive by it about once a week. Robin, Lisa, Holly, Lorie, Kristen, anybody want to help me out here??

Here we are in front of a space suit. Oooooooooo

It was real and I bet you its still there in the museum, if I ever went there to see it.

I remember one of my favorite things about going to the Space and Rocket Center was getting Dehydrated Ice Cream. That stuff was awesome. :)

Update #2 - My sister works out at NASA and just ate some dehydrated ice cream the other day, and is going to go get me some. :)

So if your ever up in North Alabama and want to go, let me know. I'd like to go there myself. Maybe we could go together. :)

Fro Me To You! I wasn't thinking!

Bryan and I went a couple of years ago on our anniversary and watched The Order of the Pheonix on IMAX. A memorable anniversary.

And of course he had to make jokes about Uranus. Poor old Uranus, I think I would have applied to get my name changed if I were ... it. BUUUUUUT I'm not.

Dehydrated ice cream tastes so much better when you're a kid. Who loves anything that has sugar in it. And is pink.

My middle child loved Buzz Lightyear. He used to "fly" his Buzz around saying, "To infibbidy and deeyon!"

I have no clue about the rocket. But, I had that plaid coat.
We paid $120 to buy the family season pass(lets in 6) and it came with I think 3 guest passes if you ever go it was cheaper than buying individual passes. They have rides like the centrifuge and the space shot and they also have an indoor rock wall. It was well worth the money because we could just go anytime and do the rock wall when it was raining or go for the other rides on good days. Only one in your family that would want to repeat would be Logan.

The last time I went Kerrie was 6 or 7 and she is 27 now so.... your right it's time to visit again. I need to take my grand kiddos - maybe you should work up a group trip. We could get Connie to join us and laugh all day!

Such cool pictures! Our whole family is space obsessed. My oldest says that he wants to be the first astronaut to go into a black hole. I'm not sure how to answer that without destroying his dream...so I smile and nod.

This post helped move one of of my things to do up on the list.

I keep saying we need to do our city like a tourist instead of taking advantage of living here.

Thanks for the nudge!

We probably took you in Nov. since my brother usually brought his family down during Thanksgiving.
Since I worked at NASA at that time, I'm sure I got passes and we got in free. I don't think they do that now. Just a discount. And they didn't have all the rides they have now. L Logan would really enjoy it. You should take all of them. Love you. AND HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO ME.

And I can still remember the taste of the astronaut food. Those guys should get paid more. Yuck.

Great post! I always wanted to go to space camp after watching the movie!

I have been there several times! Ok, 2 or 3 times, but that's still several.

Interesting sidenote, my husband grew up in Huntsville. He moved to Tennessee when he was 12.

I went to space camp when I was about 10 or so and went back with my Physics class my senior year in high school. My family and I were talking about it and realized that most of us have never been. Crazy, huh?

When I was little I think I dedicated an entire year trying to convince my parents to send me to space camp... sadly they didn't love me enough to send me ;-)

Great pics, as always. Love the coats!

wow, that's cool! IF i ever visit, you promise to take me?

I think the last time I went was when I was in high school. My hubby is from Hartselle, and for a couple of years our older daughter lived in Huntsville. I have family who lives there as well. I guess it just hasn't been a priority for me to go as an adult since I don't have small children.

My daughter went to Space Camp last year. She had a wonderful time.

I think it would be a great place for kids. I'm curious about that ice cream.

You all look cute in those coats.

Love it! And I used to live less than four miles from Mount Vernon (George Washington's home). Never went. Not once.

One of my favorite places to visit in the state! My son hopes to go to Space Camp sometime soon. And mama 'n 'em live right up there too. So next time I go up I'm sending you a msg!

My husband went to Space Camp there when he was younger. I've never seen the movie though.

Looks like a fun place to go! Closest we ever got as kids was going to the Tillamook Blimp Museum, which is now an air museum and quite a bit more impressive.
