THANK YOU ALL & GUESS WHAT SHE DID!

I just wanted to say thank you for letting me have my mini melt down.  :)  One thing I noticed is that some of you might need to vent also.  Maybe I need to start a Venting with Valarie Day.  You know, don't mention any names, and don't gossip, or be ugly about anyone.  Just a place to maybe scream or let of some steam.  I don't know that probably would not work, even though I know I felt a little better after doing it.

If you need to vent I will be there for you, but if you tend to be acting  ugly in your venting I am gonna send you to someone else to vent to.  :)  (Right now I want to vent about my computer running extremely slow!)

Now onto something that happened the other day, that I have been needing to blog about.  This is gonna cause a lot of mixed feelings around here.

It all happened on July 8, 2008.  The day she became an "Adult" (please take note that it is in quotations.  I am being very sarcastic about that).

It was a lovely day, just beautiful outside.  Warm, but not to hot, a slight breeze in the air, with striking blue skies.

All she could think about when she woke up that morning was this one particular thing.  She had been wanting this for awhile, I would not let her do it.  Now that she was 18 the time had come.  The time when she could sign her own papers to get the dreaded........NOSE PIERCING!!!!!!

Here she is filling out her own paperwork. (I would not sign for her to get this done, but I did want to be there when she did it.  Hey, I need stuff to blog about.)  :)

She is so grown up, don't ya think?  (again sarcasm)

Here she is in the chair....

DSC_0423

Here she is looking a little nervous.......

DSC_0425

Please note before going to the next pictures, this is not for the weak of stomach.

If you do not like needles, pain, and torture devices do not go any further!

YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED!!!!

First they prepare the area with something, I don't really remember what they put here, hopefully some antiseptic of some sort to ward of infection!

DSC_0428

What's wrong Jess?  It looks like your going to the dentist.  I guess they put the bib on you in case you were to bleed. :)

DSC_0430

Here we go... we take the pincher things and clamp the side of your nose......

DSC_0432

Then we pull the heck out of your nose and stick about a 3 inch needle into the prepared spot.....  Can I just say Oooowwwww!!! right here....

DSC_0433

Please note that I spared you all the one picture Jessie said I should have gotten.  The needle actually sticking thru her nose.  I was to horrified to snap the picture.  I was in shock actually.

"Hey its not that bad I really didn't feel anything!"

DSC_0435

All done!!

DSC_0437

So here it is like 5 minutes later.  The ink was still on there and everything so it doesn't look as good as it could I guess.

DSC_0439

Here she is  Ms. I am 18 now,and I got my nose pierced, and I signed for it my self.

(say that like you are singing the Ms. America thing)

Jessie, I love you very much!  I only hope that one day when you decide that you don't want that in your nose anymore, that the hole will grow up.   :)

Love your Mother xoxoxox

Anybody got any helpful parenting tips for new "I think I am an adult now children"?

Anyone?

Anyone?

I am not to the nose ring thing yet (I have very squeamish children so hopefully I am safe from that argument). I am doing the Your Clothes are WAY TOO TIGHT Battle. Thank you Areopostle, for making children's clothes.... for teenagers. Jeez Louise!

I think Jess's nose ring looks purtiful on her! She is a gorgeous girl!

I have no tips. I'm sorry. But I will tell you this much... I pierced not just my nose, by my eyebrow and my tongue, too. Yes, I was one of those kids.

I don't have any of them anymore and the holes have all closed up nicely. :)

So maybe just one tip. Don't freak out too much. LOL! Good luck!

I'm not gonna touch that with a 10-foot pole, except to say, I'm going to lock my kids in their rooms. Forever. Amen.

Well, um, sorry. I told her not to do it! I tried to be on your side. Jess- where did we go wrong? Why? You are still beautiful, and we'll try not to stare at your nose. Did you register to vote?

Well, my kids are not even in double digits yet so I don't have advice. But I will say that from my experiences when I was her age, I can safely say that she'll grow out of it. I at one point had my belly button pierced and I took it out a year later. My Mom wasn't thrilled with me getting my belly button pierced but a friend at her work let her know that it could be worse...drugs, alcohol, or NOT consulting her mother on decisions (like it appears that Jessie does with you). Soooooooooo...that's all I have to say about that ;-). Jessie is still beautiful, just like her mother!

Well, it looks ok. I think you are a good parent. This isn't the sort of thing you want to estrange your children over, so I'm glad you were there for her.

Once they're adults, I think we just have to give them the best advice we can, hope they follow it and just be there for them through the good and the bad, no matter if we approve or not. :o)

OOOWWWWW!!! OK that just looks painful to me!! I always wonder what people do when they have a cold with a nose piercing, I would have tissue shreds hanging all over the place. lol

Oh how! It just looks so painful!

I'm trying to figure out when it becomes a good idea to stick something outside of your nose that could easily be mistaken for a large booger. Or a small booger. Or a slimy/sparkely booger. Or a peice of dirt. Or a dirty booger.

The good news is that a)that nose stuff will grow back and b) she'll be posting it as her 'fro me to you less than 10 years from now saying what an idiot she was to do it.

I LOVE Southerner comment... Did you register to vote? That cracked me up for some reason.

But she is RIGHT! Get registered Jess! It's a big responsibility!

I will be out of pocket and sounds like about the time we get back home you will be leaving out?

Busy times!

Y'all be careful Valarie and I look forward to a nice long email conversation about your trip and my (not so fun cleaning the house)trip. SUNBLOCK!

EWWWW! that looks like it hurt but I guess she made it through it! Glad that you did also. I can't help you on the "ADULT" thing because I have 3 that think they are "ADULTS" literally! The one thing I can offer is prayers, so today you are in my prayers.

comment from Jessie...

i love my piercing, it doesn't look like a booger, much less a zit. and now that its all cleaned up mom likes it. i say i'm not gonna grow out of it, nor my bellybutton. i've had it done for over 4 years and i still have it in. i think i'll pierce my lip next.....

Oh, letting go must be so hard to do. Sounds like you are doing great to me! I have no advice - mine are 4 and 7.

She is a beautiful girl!

I had my nose done in '92 - before body piercings, besides ears... and even then multiple ear piercings were rare... were even common here in Paradise.

There were no places that did professional body piercings. Getting your nose done was considered waaaay extreme.

Believe it or not, only some hair dressers would do the job - that is if they did pierced ears... cause they used the piercing gun ( which is now not legal for body piercings except ears) to pierce your nose.

Let's say it wasn't pleasant ( I was sure my nose was going to turn blue and fall of... of which neither happened). But after the pain went away I just loved it.

Problem - couldn't get proper nose jewelery, then. So my nose studs were teeny stud earings, of course without anything to hold them in ( like the jewelry today)... couldn't put the butterfly back on, if you know what I mean.

So after a summer of allergies and "blowing" the stud out every time I sneezed or blew my nose.. out it came permanently.

I don't regret having it done - I really liked it & I think it looked good on me - I actually had lots of compliments. But I wouldn't get it done again ... at least not now while I'm still in the working world.

Maybe when I retire and become like that crazy lady that Catherine Hepburn portrayed... I can't remember the name of the movie... and I won't care what anyone thinks of me :D

sorry, no tips here. however i might have to ask you for tips when it's my turn to face these 'i'm an adult now' moments.

Uh! Mty son got his lip and his ears pierced when he turned 18! They are gone now ('cause he joined the Navy) and I don't miss them at all. She is beautiful though, with and without the nose piercing!

April said...

It could be worse, tell her we are getting them next !!

Anonymous said...

Well - if I ever need them my tips will come from you! So sorry about that!!

I just hope she's happy. Is she still glad she did it?

Tammy said...

No, did she really say she was going to get her lip pierced next?!

Ummm, here's to hoping one day she takes that thing out and lets the skin grow back closed.

Now excuse me please while I go lock my kids back in their rooms. And then I'll explain to them that just because you are old enough doesn't mean you should.

Geez... I go to the beach for ONE week and this is what happens? (You know... 'cause the world revolves around ME! Ha!)

Sorry, no advice for you, friend! I've got a younger one (going on 21, SHE thinks!) who swears she's going to get a tattoo as soon as legally possible. At least a nose ring can come out and close up without the help of several, expensive trips to a plastic surgeon!!!

And, yes... register to vote! It IS your right and your responsibility now that you are an ADULT making ADULT decisions!

Have a great time at the beach. I hope you have as great of weather as we did this past week!

Blessings!

Oh Valarie, we went through this when my daughter was 16 and a cheerleader. It seems all the other cheerleaders had their noses pierced...weird, really since they couldn't wear the "piercing" at school...ANYWAY...after what seemed like an eternity of fighting over it, El Jefe gave in. He had a valid point...if this was the absolute WORSE thing she ever did, we were good. She got it done and within a few months had the stupid thing out for good. Now she has a tiny little reminder forever on the side of her nose!

It's okay honey...it really, really is...I know you don't like it or understand it, but again, if this is the absolute worse thing she ever does...it's ALL good.

Yikes! That looks painful. I got my belly button pierced shortly after I turned 18. I passed out. Now theres is a big stretch mark running right through the spot where the hole was. Very atractive, let me tell ya.
