FRO ME TO YOU - MODEL BEHAVIOR

Kristen has been such a "model" here for us at the "Fro me to you" blog carnival, that I thought I would "model" after her.  I also want you to know that there will be plenty of laughter with this post, so if your bladder is not strong, I suggest you go take a potty break.  We can wait.

Now I hope you all appreciate this, because I had to dig deep for these.  I dug so deep, that I actually found pots and pans that I thought were lost forever after our remodeling.  I also found my apple peeler corer thing!  :) I am real excited about that, since apple time is getting close.

Wait a minute what was I talking about?  Oh yeah, "model" behavior.

When I was younger, I believe 16 to be exact.  I was on the Teen Modeling Board at Castner Knotts, which was later bought out by Dillards.  How I pulled this off is beyond me.  I had the self confidence of a newt.  If a newt has any self confidence.  I just remember there being an announcement at school, and for some reason I said hey that might be fun.  I remember what I wore and everything.  Actually I found a picture of what I wore. Its a picture of me a dance though not at the auditions.

(By the way if you recognize yourself in these pictures, I am sorry I didn't get your permission to post them.  I just only know how to get in touch with one of you and I already told him he might be on here one day.  If you want me to take it down I will.  :(  )

I remember the judges asking me to speak German, because I had that on my list of subjects I was taking at the time.  I don't even know what I said to them.  I hope it wasn't anything bad.

All that brings me to this.  The day I found out, I had made it onto the board, I had just went through a hey lets cut my hair short phase.  I sure hope they didn't pick me because I had long hair.  :(

One of the first things we did was a back to school fashion show. Here are some of those pictures.

Don't ask about the Three Stooges, I don't know what that was all about.

scan0003

Robin must have been taking these pictures.  You can see right up my nose.  Glad there were no "bats in the cave".

scan0001

Boy I was working it!  Yeah Right!

Now I not only modeled there at Castnor Knotts, I like Kristen liked to do fashion shoots.  Mine were TEEN magazine fashion shoots though.  Here are a few examples.

scan0005

Did everybody were socks with flats and long skirts, or was that just me?

scan0006

Oh ya'll better really love me for this.

This next one should give me lasting embarrassment for a very, very, very long time.

scan0004

Lordy mercy, I was such a dork!  I obviously loved that sweat shirt though.

So there you have it.  My model career such as it was.  It was very short lived.  They don't take to kindly to girls who get pregnant, being on a teen modeling board.  Something about setting an example.

So for more thoroughly embarrassing photos of other people, please go over to Kristens at We are THAT Family.  That is if you can stop laughing at me long enough to go do that.  :)

I am cracking up right now. Those pictures are so cute....I think I might have had that same hot pink sweatshirt. :)

I especially liked the end where you talked about getting pregnant and setting an example for the Teen Board. I love your sense of humor! I actually have a running series on my blog about my own "getting knocked up story". In fact....it's my Fro' me to you post this week.

Great Post!

Valarie, thanks for coming by to see the redesign.

Oh, these pics are funny! I've got some that are priceless. I should post some of my "big hair" pics sometime. I could win a prize & I didn't even have to try to get my hair that big.

If I sat on my TV now, I'd probably topple over. Somehow what you did seems much more high class than my Solid Gold shimmying.

This is just TOO much. I had totally forgotten about Teen Boards at Caster Knott. I used to love that store, until Dillards bought it.

My sister always wore socks with flats. Wait, I almost said that she was a dork. I take that back. ;-)

Oh yeah you were stylin! Love the pants in the first photo.

Most of the clothes I wore while mall modeling were... um ick! At least that's how I feel now.

Being a teen-age can be so much fun! Ha! Loved the pics! I was once in a fashion show for Dillard's. I was so much smaller (i.e. shorter) than everyone else that I had to get my clothes out of the kid's department. I looked like a baby! And I also wear socks with flats & long skirts. Weren't we so cool & cute? ;)

I could do a whole post on "Tragic Modeling Pictures from The '80s." I have mine, too. Maybe next week.
I totally remember those sweaters with the crests on them...so classy.

Valarie--you were one cool 80's model! I love the pics. I think there are some of those somewhere lurking in my old photo albums. Maybe you have inspired me to pull some more out...hmmm

Too fun!

When we started our youth ministry about 10 years ago, we had those same life-sized Three Stooges cutouts in the building. Also George and Barbara Bush and John Wayne. ?? Loved the pics.

At least you don't take yourself too seriously!

Thanks for stopping by and leaving such a sweet comment. It's nice to meet you and I'm so glad that you've been encouraged to try some things you thought you couldn't do.

I laughed out loud when I read this post! I remember that one of my best friends was a department store teen model. I thought she was sooooooo glamorous. Oh was I envious. Your pictures are fantastic.

And good job on the monogram project! Joy has the best ideas.

That Guess sweatshirt you were wearing is awesome! I would have worn it all the time too. And those bangs, those are hard to make, trust me - I remember spraying my own upside down with the Aquanet every morning.
