Porch Decor

This weekend I have been working on my fall decorations for outside.  My friend Dana had asked what to do on her front porch, and I suggested pumpkin topiaries.  I like the idea so much, I decided to do some of my own.  That would be why I bought the mess of pumpkins the other day.  :)

I started looking for some urns to put them in, but I did not want to spend a lot of money.  Then I remembered I had two flower pots I had not used yet, and figured they might work.

DSC_0151

Of course I did not like the color for what I was doing, so I painted them black.

After this was done, I started thinking about what I was going to sit the pumpkins on.  I couldn't  just sit them down in the planters, and I needed something stable to glue them on.  The hunt is on....

Let me take you into a scary scary place.

Logan's workshop/ catch all/ home of many spiders!

Speaking of spiders look at this guy!

DSC_0170

He is pretty creepy looking, to be one of the good kind.  :[

Anyway lets go in....

DSC_0173

Scary, scary place...  Lets see if we can find anything that might work to sit the pumpkins on.

DSC_0179 Ooooo what's this?  I can't use them now, but I have something in mind for them later.

DSC_0181

Jack Pot!  I can use these tiles!  I can sit them down in the pot and they can hold the pumpkins.  Lets try it out.....DSC_0182

Rats!!!  They are to big.  Lets keep looking.....

I forgot I had these they might just work...

DSC_0185

They are plant stands that I found at the Dollar General store about two summers ago.

DSC_0183

Well look at that.  They fit right down in there and the little legs make for an interesting little decoration.

Let's go put this thing together.

DSC_0320

First I needed to cut a hole in the bottom of the smaller pumpkins.  This way they would sit on top of each other with out being lopsided.

DSC_0323

Once I got the hole cut out, I hot glued the larger pumpkin to the plant stand. Then I hot glued the smaller pumpkins on top of each other, and then to the larger pumpkin.  Stacking like this....

DSC_0325

Oh you might be wondering how I am going to keep the pots weighted down.

I used something that I have not used in a while.

DSC_0326

I sure do hope 8 pound dumbbells will keep them from turning over.  :)

Once I got them all into place.  I added some fall decoration to them.

Here is the finished product......

Not bad for my first attempt at them.  Hopefully they don't look too awful cheesy or anything.  I did add a lot of P.O.O.P.I.E onto them.  If you don't know what that is go over to The Nester's site and she will explain.  :)

More fall outdoor decorating to come!  Next up pumpkin topiary number 3 with a kick!

I live at....Oh, you know where I live. If you want you can come do my front porch. These turned out great.

I would love ideas about the trunk or treat. I remember your Lucy and old lady posts. I still am not sure I am doing a trunk. My husband wants me to. I am just feeling overwhelmed lately.

Looks great! I understand the cutting the hole in the bottom so they'll sit on the one below them, but how are the pumpkins attached to each other? Are they glued, wired?

Very pretty... P.O.O.P.I.E. and all!!!

*WILD APPLAUSE*

You did great chick! I love that you are spray painting everything black. But you called it... the black looks perfect with the topiaries. AND, these can stay up until Christmas. It is perfect for the entire fall season!

Umm... yah...

So I read it again. Yep, hotglue.

Good thing there wasn't a test at the end, right?!

I love these! I want some of those pumpkins just to sit outside, but how would I weigh them down? Any ideas on that?

Awesome! I should go do something like that. I still have a Christmas wreath on the front door that I made almost 3 years ago. Shame on me!

Aww... you are sooo good at this bloggy thing, I love how I feel like I was some how right there while you were looking for resources. Takes a lot of time, but worth it for us to see. They look great, and I love the pumpkins you added at the bottom!

Hi Valerie!
Oh lookie at what you did! I LOVE the look. How neat to stack them like that into topiaries. I think the p.o.o.p.i.e looks wonderful and not at all overly done. Have you thought at all about painting your pumpkins? I am doing mine this year with some big black polka dots and whatever else I can find in the decorator books. I am a *crazy* All Hallow's Eve woman! I just love this season!

Can't wait to see what you come up with next. :-)
Hugs,
Kimmie

I have a thing for topiaries. Not that I have any of my own-just love looking at others! I want to make some-but I wont pay $40 a PEICE for pumpkins! Yep-they are that much. I still wont pay half price for them either. I am so cheap! guess I will still vicariously through you!

Very Pretty! I tried just doing some marigolds on my porch this fall but they are already whithering. I am like a death sentence to plants!
