Because I love you all, and because I have been a little lacking in my recent Fro Me to You's, I pulled something deep from the depths of the albums.
I give you 9th grade Home Economic.
Now why we had a grand piano in our home economics class is beyond me. It was actually set up in a room right beside where all the mass ovens and sewing machines were. I think it might have been set up to look like a "living room". Maybe to show us what one should look like. Well I don't know about y'all but I do not have a baby grand in my living room, or setting room, or music room, or any room for that matter. I am just not cultured like that. It also could be the fact that I have children and I would just like to go ahead and avoid the headache of keeping them from banging on the piano all day.
I came away from economics with little knowledge. I don't think I have really used a sewing machine since then. I know, I know I should know how to sew. Well I don't, but I want to learn, so my Mama is gonna teach me. I do know how to cook, I just don't really get to do that a lot.
So anyway go ahead make fun of my big hair and glasses and anything else. I am ready for it, I am over my adolescent insecurities. (I think)
For more adolescent flashbacks go visit Kristin over at We are THAT Family. You just might want to join us. (Rhea, I am talking to you)

I sewed a pair of shorts and put the pockets in backwards so when you went to put your hands in your pocket instead of going forward it went back towards the rear. Had to use a seam ripper FOREVER to take them off and redo them. We did a fashion show after sewing our outfits.
Got on your tight pants again. Man, those glasses are big.
Hey, look... those jeans are back in style!
(Sshh... I can sew but I pretend not to know how so no one will make me!)
Yeah, sewing is something I never mastered either. I wish I did though. But, your home ec room was stylin' with that piano! Sweet!
My Sincerely 'Fro Me to You is up.
Love the look. I do!
My friends from college and I have scanned and uploaded to our facebook a butt load of photos from back in our college days... late 80's. I have never laughed so hard in my life.
I love a good flashback photo.
I can't sew either. Sewed in home ec class too & that was about it. I'm too impatient. Maybe I'll learn someday.
Confessions of an Apron Queen
Thanks for digging deep, Val! It was worth it.
I cracked up about the piano in the Home Ec room. That must be a subliminal message or something!
Love that look too. You really rawk it!
Totally cool I believe was the word then and your still totally cool now also!
Nothin' like a good dose of acid wash jeans.
Upon seeing the stuffed mouse pillow I was making, my home ec teacher told me, "It'll be fine once you rip out all the seems and start over." Now if that isn't spin I don't know what is - lol.
I wouldn't DARE make fun of that hair or those glasses.
Now the acid washed high water peg legged gotta be Jordache or Chic jeans with your buddies on?
No, I wouldn't make fun of those either. :)
Be blessed!
Jen
What a great picture! Can you believe that huge hair and shirts and tight, straight jeans was considered a great style?
Tapered jeans. Yep. Classic. And any piano next to ovens, not good for the piano. How odd.
I don't sew either. I've tried. But me and the bobbin tension just don't get along!
officially busting a gut over this photo!
I too wore the baggy sweat shirts and tapered jeans with the white socks and high top shoes!! High School Grad of 1991.
I was gonna say that pic had to be taken in the late 80's early 90's. My sister used to look just like that (Big hair, skinny jeans, huge sweatshirts) and she graduated in 1991!
Anybody else totally creeped out that all those styles we used to wear are now coming back? It CAN'T be happening!!!! LOL!
wow.. that photo evoked so many flashbacks in my mind..
The white scrunchy socks and little white keds says it all!
jump on over to my blog today and commiserate with another large framed girl (speaking about glasses here)
I totally bombed home ec. My teachers thought I was a hopeless case! :)
You look so cute with the baby grand...maybe it was overflow from the music classes??
Oh wow girl you had it going on, leg propped up and everything!
I think you looked as cute as a button.
AHHH- the rolled pants, slouched socks and poofy bangs, those were the days weren't they!
Oooh, we could have been twins. Except I wasn't cute. And I had brown hair. And braces. And I usually wore blue sweatshirts. But we totally could have been twins.
Hey! I loved the 80s look. Don't laugh, it will be back before you know it.
Hmm...never heard of a piano in the home ec room before. Perhaps a little dinner music was played while they sampled their culinary creations?
Classic....rolled jeans, slouched socks, with Keds. Oh, and not to forget the baggy sweatshirt. Loved them days! Great pic!
Thanks for hopping by my blog...I got my chalkboards at Michael's craft...I'm pretty sure you could find them at pretty much any craft store though ;)
Love the hair! lol....
I think that we should have some sort of sewing party like our blogging nights. I have some things that I want to make!
I am loving the hair and all! You take me back to my days, looks like what I wore. Esp. the socks!
Cute pic!
