FIGHTING THE FRUMP SOME MORE :)

fightfrumpbutton

Hey y'all, I am back fighting the frump after a small absence.   It seems I got into a Fashion Frump Brain Fog, and sorta ran out of stuff to fight about.  I didn't want to just keep repeating myself.   Every Thursday evening and Friday, I would think what can I write about that is fashion forward, fashion yet simple, fashion yet easy, and maybe fashion yet cheap.  For the past several Thursday evenings and Fridays I have sat here with nothing, NOTHING I tell you.  That is until about a week ago.

It all started while I was at Wally World.  I was perusing the cosmetics isle looking for some make-up to wear while at the beach.  Its hot at the beach and I didn't want my make-up to melt off the minute I put it on and walked out the door.   So I looked at some of the mineral makeup they have there at the old Wally World.  I had tried a couple before and to tell you the truth, they were ok.  I am funny though, and  the thing I did not like about them, was the brush.  The bristles stuck me in the face and it hurt.  I know I am weird.

I decided I would go with this.......

almay

Almay Pure Blends

Now I wasn't to sure about it at first, in fact I put it down twice before I finally decided to get it.  To my surprise, I really like it.  It goes on easy.  You just pump that little button at the bottom and then brush it all over your face.   I put my concealer on and blend it in and then swirl this on my face, and I am done.  You want to know the best part?  It actually looks like I have makeup on and not just powder, which is what I was afraid of.

So on a scale of 1 -10

Ease of use - 10

Cost - 8  ( It was about $12, not to bad, but free would be better.  I'm just sayin, cause it would.  I know I won't be getting it for free.)

Portability - 10 ++

Mess - 0 (There isn't a mess!)

Bristle softness - 10 :)

So I'm not saying you have to run out and buy this, but if your looking for something like this to try, I would go ahead and pick it up.

FIGHT THE FRUMP - I WAS IN SHOCK

fightfrumpbutton

This weekend I think I saw one of the most heinous fashion no no's everrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr!!! Y'all I was in complete amazement. It was like a bad train wreck, you just could not stop looking.

We have talked about, our shoes, our toes, our nails, our makeup, the mom jeans that we should NOT have in our closets, our PJ's, our hair, our inner beauty, and so so many other things.

Ladies, there is one accessory that is with us a good deal of the time that we have not covered, and that is our......husbands.

Let me just paint you a horrible picture. As most of you know I was at a softball tournament this weekend. Now this is not a place to find the latest in run way fashion by any stretch of the imagination. Standard non frumpy attire for me consists of white t-shirt, khaki shorts, flip flop's, sunglasses, and maybe my pink nike ball hat.

While I was sitting there minding my own business, watching my daughter play, someone caught our eye.

This guy comes walking up to coach a softball practice in the following:

Athletic shorts like this but in lime green (he should be arrested by the fashion police for this alone)

green-shorts

A T-shirt with this saying on it in this color. While fine for a 12 year old girl, not so much for a 40 year old man, or any man for that matter.

SOFTBALLSAYING

Do I have to say anything here?

whiteshoesblacksocks

Now to go along with this wonderful outfit he was carrying this...

HOTPINK

I can only hope he was carrying it for his daughter.

To top it all off he was also carrying this.....

speed_06

So not only was he wearing this awful fashion train wreck, he was riding a motorcycle.

None of that should be allowed together people, none of it!

So it got me to thinking this very lingering question.

Where was his wife before he walked out of the house? I would not have let mine walk out that way. Nope, its not happening.

So ladies, don't let something like this cramp your style. You work hard to be non-frumpy, don't let it all go down the drain, because your guy can not dress himself.

Oh and one more thing. If anyone has read the little post before this, just know that Jessie once again hijacked my blog. The nose piercing, booger catcher, looks like you have a big zit on your nose is not looking to promising for her right now. :)

MOISTURE, MOISTURE, MOISTURIZE

fightfrumpbutton

I really like lotions. So much so that I have all sorts of them, because I am always trying new ones. Trying to find "the one".

You know the one that smells good, but not overpowering. Feels good, but not greasy. Then most importantly, it should last for a long time before having to reapply.

Well I think I have found "the one", and it does not cost an arm and a leg! Yeah!!!!!

I actually bought this for my hubby to use, but I have since taken it over.

Jergens Shea Butter

JSB

This stuff is great, I put it on and it last all day. I don't feel greasy and it absorbs pretty quickly. My skin has never felt better. I am highly recommending this stuff. So if any of you out there work for the Jergens company, I am willing to take free samples of the stuff.

Fight the Frump - Curly Q

fightfrumpbutton

Last week we talked about hair care in general and its importance. This week I want to break it down a bit. I want to talk to you about naturally curly hair. Now if you have stick straight hair like me you may be going great a tip I can't even use, but I'm sure you know someone who has curly hair who can use this advice.

Let me introduce you all to my younger sister Robin. This is Robin back in the day, holding our baby cousin Justin. Justin is graduating High School tomorrow night. I am telling you these kids are growing up to fast.

(Note if I never blog on here again its because she has killed me)

scan0014

Robin has always had a problem with curly hair. Why I can remember when we were just youngens growing up near the hollers of TN (if you don't know what a holler is let me know I will explain) , I used to love to show of Robins curly hair. I had straight as a board hair. I had to pay for my curls. So I loved playing with her curls and since she was younger than me I made her let me show them off to random people. Like say in the middle of a grocery store if someone commented on her hair, I would make her flip her head over to revel her little curly q's she had.

She was always complaining about how she hated her hair. Do all curly headed people do this? Complain about their curly hair? Anyway when she was younger it did get quite frizzy on top. She had a natural fro thing going. So she has always hated the frizziness that is her hair. Well on day out Sister Lisa got her and my other sister Deta a book on Curly hair. It was called "Curly Girl".

curls

If you have curly hair I suggest you go get it. It changed Robins life, really it did. Let me just tell you one thing that she does that actually had me a little weirded out.

SHE DOES NOT WASH HER HAIR WITH SHAMPOO!!! Yep you heard me, or actually read me, she does not use shampoo. I think within the last 9 months, she has probably only washed her hair with shampoo when she went to the salon.

This is what she does. She washes with conditioner only. Apparently it contains enough soap to keep your scalp clean. Shampoo contains alcohol and alcohol dries out your curly hair, thus causing frizzies.

So she washes with the conditioner on her scalp and then runs conditioner through the rest of her hair. Then she rinses, and this is another key to curly hair, with luke warm water. Hot water will cause frizzies. Then she does not wrap a towel around her head. She scrunches her hair with the towel to get the water out. Then she adds her product to her hair and lets it dry natural if possible and does not run here fingers through it if at all possible. She will use a defuser on the hairdryer if she is in a hurry.

Now me being the loving sister that I am, I check her pretty much every time I see her. I will look at her scalp to make sure she doesn't have cooties, and I smell it to make sure it smells clean. So far no cooties and her hair smells pretty darn good.

If I had curly hair this is what I would be doing, because her hair has never looked better.

Oh and Robin wanted me to tell you about the time I got this great idea from TEEN magazine. They were showing you how to trim the dead ends off your hair by flipping your head over and putting it into a ponytail on the very top of your head. Then you were suppose to snip about 1/4 inch of hair off the tips. So I convinced Robin to let me try it out on her. Well let me just say this little trick does not work so well on curly hair. :o)

FIGHT THE FRUMP - HAIR CARE

fightfrumpbutton

First off I would like to say congratulations to Mrs. Fussypants on the arrival of the newest little Fussypants. I hope you are feeling wonderful, and if you are reading this, give that baby an extra squeeze from me. I would also like to say thank you to our interim host Kara. Thank you bunches!

Ok on with the show!

Today I am going to try to talk about something that is not as crazy as last week.

This week I am going to talk hair care. Several of you mentioned that you liked my hair, ok I think it might have actually been two or three. I want to thank you very much, but I did not get this hair on my own. Ok well I did grow my own hair, but I have help. :)

I have a wonderful hairdresser, who is one of my very dear friends. Now when you have a wonderful hairdresser, who is one of your very dear friends, they tend to tell you like it is. They also tend to tell you that the stuff you buy at Wally World and Tar-jay (say that with a french accent) is crap!! From personal experience I tend to believe said wonderful hairdresser, who is one of my very dear friends. When the budget has gotten tight, I have been known to go to Wally World or Tar-Jay (say that with a french accent) and get my "products". As a matter of fact up until about a three weeks ago, I was using some stuff from the drug store.

Lately though I had been wondering "what is up with my hair"? It just was not doing right, it looked dry and well just icky. So the last time I went and got my hair did, I did not mention the fact that I was using something not from a salon or a beauty store. She had scissors in her hands I was not about to mention that. My wonderful hairdresser, who is a one of my dear friends did tell me that my hair was really dry this time, I might want to get a deep conditioner. Well that is just great! I didn't want my hair being all dry and brittle!

So where did I go when I left there, yep you guessed it to my local beauty supply store. I had heard of this particular brand of hair stuff from a really popular blogger, and I thought its worth a shot. Now I don't even know if its the stuff she was talking about or I just know it was the brand name. So I picked up this stuff......

100_0244 .....It is wonderful!! Its called Biosilk Treat. You put it on towel dried hair and then you style as normal. Within a couple of times of using it I could tell a major difference.

I also got this stuff.....

337d_1

I really have liked it also. It is called "After Party" its for after you have styled your hair. You put just a little, and I mean just like a pea size in the palm of your hand and the rub your hands together and then smooth through your hair. Making sure to hit those areas, that have the most frizzy spots. Like around your face, and the tips of your hair.

bedhead-selfabsorbed-backpackLastly I picked me up some shampoo and conditioner "Bed Heads, Self Absorbed". I think this part is really key to having well managed hair. Now I have secret to tell you, this is not my natural hair color. Nope not at all. I probably should use something for color or highlighted hair, but I really like using something that puts a lot of moisture back into my hair. That is why I choose this product. I had used it before and really liked it so I thought lets try it again.

Since I have gotten back on the boat for using really good products I can tell such a difference in my hair. Its amazing.

Now I am not telling you to go out and buy these particular products, but to find the best products for your hair type. Good products, not the stuff that is marked down to half price somewhere because they could not get it off the shelves.

Sometimes we have to spend a little more to get a little more. I also think that these products tend to last longer, because I don't have to use as much of it.

So there you have it my hair care for the day. Now go find out what other wonderful Frump Fighting tips you get over at Karla's place.

MIRACLE EXFOLIANT???

I have been know to try some strange things for beauty. For instance, several Fridays back I talked about Coconut oil and its benefits. Well I tried it and used it for a while and the results, well, they were pretty good. I really could tell a difference in my skin, like the ditches between my eyes seemed to be becoming more like small ruts. I did stop using it though because my face all the sudden started having fine bumps on it. I don't think it was the coconut oil though, I think I may have put to much teatree oil in there. I used it for a nice fragrance. I love the smell of that stuff it reminds me of a spa. Anywho where was I? Oh yeah strange beauty treatments.

Well leave it to me to find some other beauty thing to try. You wont believe this, I can barely believe it.

Its a miracle cure for dry flaky skin. Its called Miracle Whip!!!! Yep you heard me right Miracle Whip!

You are supposed to put it on your face and then leave it there for like 10 minutes. After that you massage it in and it is supposed to exfoliate your skin. So I wonder if this will work?

Yall hold on a second, I will be right back I am gonna go try this.

(This is me with Miracle whip on my face. The things I do for yall)

Ok so its been on here for about 10 minutes now. I am supposed to go and massage it in, and then it will rub off in little balls. Then I am supposed to wash as normal. So lets see what happens then. (Seeing as I smell like cole slaw right now.) I'll be right back.

Alright, I 'm back. Well it actuall did slouth off like an exfoliant should, and my skin was well very very soft. My hands are pretty darn soft too from handling the stuff.

On a scale of 1 - 10, I think I am gonna give this stuff a 7. The results are not bad, if you can handle smelling like coleslaw for a while.

Actually as I am typing this my skin feels really good. It feels very soft, and it feels like its tightened up also. Hmmmmm very very interesting.

So if your brave enough to take a challenge. Go to the fridge or the store, get some Miracle Whip and slather the stuff on and let me know your results.

Again I know this all sounds strange, but look who is telling you all this. :)' (Plus its late, I have been up since 4:30, and we have been dealing with Tornadoes all day. So the stangeness comes out in me under these circumstances.)

Beautiful Lengths

Today we are going to talk about hair. My little darling of girl Sydney has been going back and forth as to whether or not she wants to cut her hair. Sometime last year in the fall she made the decision that she wanted to donate her hair towards the end of the school year. So yesterday she has a hair appointment and I didn't think anything else about the fact that she said she had wanted to cut her hair. Well she said she wanted to cut it, but I don't think she was ready for the emotional drama to follow.

Here she is before we get it cut. Would you look at all that hair.

Then Kim put it in a pony tail.

And her she is cutting it. Notice Sydney trying not to look.

This is what we got. Its about 9 1/2 inches of hair.

Yall bless her heart when she got back from getting shampooed, the waterworks started.

I told her she was about to make me cry. It was very hard not to get emotional when my little girl is upset. She has had that hair forever. She had asked to have it cut before, but I wouldn't let her. Since this was such a good cause I gave in. So now some little girl or young lady, or a beautiful woman who has lost their hair from Chemotherapy, will be able to walk a little taller with the wig they will recieve from Syds hair.

So this is the final result, she was still getting upset anytime someone talked to her about it. I told her that her hair did not make her Sydney, and that her hair would grow back. Just remember that she is helping someone in the process.

No one even knew she was getting this done so needless to say this was quite a surprise to everyone. So I have included some pictures of the reactions she got.

(sorry about it being fuzzy)

(this is her friend giving her a "good job")

(Jessi & Syd)

(Kelsey)

(Tara)

(MeMama)

(Her Daddy did not know what to say)

(I think this is one of my favorites)

So all of that said, we are sending her hair of to the Pantene Beautiful Lengths. If you have been thinking of getting a new do, and have really long hair consider doing this. It will help someone regain their confidence. Even if you don't have long hair, you can consider growing it out and then donating it.

HEEL TODAY GONE TOMORROW

I know we have talked about the shoes and sandals for spring, and we have mentioned the pedicures that should go with them. What I want to discuss today is doing the pedicure at home. I don’t know about y’all, but with three kids in ball I don’t have time to sleep let alone get a pedicure.

So lets get some things together shall we.

1st lets get a tub big enough to fit your feet in. ( I don’t know what size feet you have, so I can’t judge what type tub you need)

2nd get you some marbles enough to put in the bottom of the tub

3rd put in some hot water. Now don’t scald yourself, but get it pretty warm.

4th Add you some bath salts, or some bath oils to the water

5th Soak your tootsies

Now that your sitting and relaxing move your feet around on the marbles and give yourself a little foot massage. Ahhhh doesn’t that feel good!

Let’s take it a step further.

Let’s get a nice exfoliating body scrub and a pumice stone and get rid of those rough dry feet.

(Now you can have another tub of cooler water to the side to rinse your feet in)

Clip your toenails and push back your cuticles with an orange stick.

(I have a question. Why is it called an orange stick? )

Anyway then take some good smelling lotion and moisturize those tootsies.

If you do this at night, get a really deep moisturizer and then put some good socks on and go to bed.

Put your favorite polish on and now you are ready to wear those fabulous sandals and flip-flops.

Remember we want to look like this

Not this

Now go Fight the Frump with and make your feet happy!!
