OLD FASHIONED FRUMPYNESS

What is the definition of Frumpy? Well according to Merriam-Webster it means Dowdy or Drab. So what does Dowdy mean? This is what it said:

1: not neat or becoming in appearance : shabby 2 a: lacking smartness or taste b: old-fashioned

What about Drab? Lets see:

1 a: of the dull brown color of drab b: of the color drab2: characterized by dullness and monotony : cheerless - a drab life

Now I don’t know about you, but I don’t want to be any of the above. I don’t think you want to be either. We are all wonderful, strong, vibrant, smart, and beautiful women. I know I have been reading your blogs.

So Fighting the Frump doesn’t mean you have to go out and buy a whole knew wardrobe or spend lots of money. (Thanks Sassy!) Even though I wouldn’t throw a duck fit if I had to go shopping right now.

I think there is a whole other realm to Fighting the Frump.

Lets talk about one of those words up there in the those definitions.

“OLD FASHIONED”

Just because Granny is getting rid of her old clothes, does not mean you need them!!!! Stay away from Granny’s clothes unless you are Granny!!!

You can get good quality clothing for little of nothing from these other places:

Thrift Store (Which I can’t bring myself to do, but that’s another issue I am working on)
Yard Sales
My friend “Clarence” at Wally World and Target’
Your best friends closet (as long as she is fashionable and not Old Fashioned)

When you are out “shopping” go for classics, go for solids, go for things that look good on you. Put staple articles of clothing in your closet. With the right accessories you can always look fashionable not Old Fashioned.

Just because the leopard print skirt and with the flowers flowing through it is on sale does not mean you need to buy it. STAY AWAY!!! Buy the solid black skirt on sale and pair it with a nice solid top. Get the pair of Khakis that’s on sale and put it with a white shirt and a blue jean jacket. Instant cuteness, but don’t ruin it with Tennis Shoes. Big No No!

Ok so I am rambling know, the point I am trying to make is this. It’s not about how expensive the outfit is or what name brand is on it. It’s how it makes you look and feel. If you can look yourself in the mirror and say, “Yep this is the look I am going for” then go for it.

I'm feel like I'm fighting a losing frumpy battle lately. I think I need retail therapy!

I love this post. You hvae some terrific ideas for shopping (I love to shop, but I hate spending money - THIS is the main reason I am frumpy on occasion.)

Thanks!

Ok, try going to the thrift store and looking for things with Tags to get you used to the idea :)

So do I need to throw out my mumu? is that considered Grandma? lol

Oh, btw, took your suggestion and wrote more about Katia for today.

Oh, just LOOK at how much a couple accessories glam up the outfits. See? That's why I absolutely need 4 different purses and a pile of jewelry!

I am going to point out that, NO JOKE, I am wearing head to toe brown. Funny how I thought I was cool in monochromatic clothes, I am actually drab!!!

I am in need of a spring over haul. My "me" attitude has been off lately. I am going to work on a springier look and a happier out look!

Very true. I think we need fashion police stationed at dressing rooms.

Solid colors and classic pieces are key. They stay in style longer so you can justify spending more money on quality clothing. (I'm ALWAYS justifying spending money)

Absolutely - you can go a little funky with accessories - assuming funky doesn't mean care bears and hello kitty to you... ;)

Excellent points - also I believe every gal needs a great consignment shop. If you go regularly and chat with the owner - she may let you know when stuff comes in in your size... Awesome reminders - thanks!
